Tanto Japanese Restaurant

Although this may remind you of an earlier post that looks almost identical, I can assure you that this place is different. Located in Sunnyvale on El Camino Real, this lovely Japanese restaurant offers a hearty and satisfying lunch. We ordered three dishes, which was a bit much for the three of us, but at least we got to try more! We ordered the little clam ramen, the lunch special (a katsu curry), and a katsu don rice bowl. The ramen was much lighter than the one we had at Dan Izakaya. It was less salty and had a deeper seafood flavor. The aroma was fantastic, and it came with so many clams. However, the noodles were fairly limp and not springy enough for my taste. The katsu curry lunch special was pretty good, but the curry tasted like any regular curry you could get out of a box at a grocery store. That’s not to say that grocery store curry is bad though, because I love it. It’s just that I expect a bit more out of a restaurant. The katsu pork on top was pretty good, but not above average. Last, but not least, we have the katsu don rice bowl. It was pretty flavorful and all the elements (egg, rice, pork, onion) seemed weird at first, but they were actually pretty good together. The other dishes were just sides that came with the meals, and they were pretty good as well. Overall, this is a pretty decent spot for some Japanese classics other than sushi, and I would totally recommend it, especially since service is extremely quick. We came in just as it was about to close, and the food came out literally less than 7 minutes within our order placement.
