Jin Sho Restaurant

To celebrate my dear mother’s birthday tonight, we headed out to Jin Sho on Cal Ave. This was Steve Jobs’ favorite sushi spot, and I have to say, he had pretty good taste. We ordered three specialty rolls (Dragon, Rainbow, and Imperial), their signature dish, the black cod with miso, the Angus Beef “rib eye” Toban Yaki, and their corn tempura. My brother enjoyed the dragon roll, but I thought that the rainbow roll was especially amazing. As you may know, I generally don’t like to eat raw fish, but here, the fish is so fresh and smooth. I loved every bite of the roll. However, the imperial roll was not as good. It was deep fried, so it was especially oily. Next, the black cod with miso came in pretty small portions, but the fish was so fresh and tender. The Toban Yaki was pretty good too. The meat was cooked well, and the sauce paired well with rice. Lastly, we had the corn tempura, which was very unique. It came with maccha salt too. The crunchy tempura coating surrounding the sweet, juicy corn was quite satisfying. Overall, the food and service here were pretty good, but I feel like the price was a bit too high for the portion sizes. Also, although I had a pretty good time, this place didn’t meet my mom’s expectations, so the ratings below are according to her. Atmosphere: 3 Service: 3.5 Taste: 3.5 Price: 2 Uniqueness: 4 Presentation: 4 Overall, 20/30 or 66.67% #jinsho #stevejobs #sushi #birthday#tobanyaki #blackcod #corntempura#ambersfoodreviews
