Willard Hicks

Today, we went to Willard Hicks to celebrate our family friend’s birthday! Although the traffic was horrible getting there, it was worth it. First, we had the honey poblano cornbread, which was super unique and simply scrumptious. Then, we ordered our main dishes. My mom, brother, and I shared the New York strip with a side of Brussels sprouts, and the bone in short rib + mash. The New York strip was cooked medium rare, and it was pretty good. It was on the leaner side, as with most New York strips, so it was a bit tougher, but still pretty good. Since we ordered it from the grill menu, it came with a big side. We chose brussel sprouts and they were amazing. Their brussels are sautéed with brown sugar and truffle oil. They were so soft and moist. Best brussel sprouts I’ve ever had. Other people also ordered meats from the grill, and their sides were mac n cheese, which was pretty good and the mashed potatoes, which had a nice unique taste. My favorite was really the short rib though. Not only was the presentation amazing, but the meat was so soft, and the sauce it was braised in made it perfect. The meat fell off the bone easily. I was skeptical of the horseradish mash at the base of the dish, but it was amazing. The unique taste was even better than regular mashed potatoes. Lastly, I want to give a mini shoutout to the scallop and risotto because even though I usually keep my distance when it comes to scallops, it was actually really good, and the risotto with mushroom was delicious. Overall, I had a really amazing time eating delicious food with awesome people.
