Los Altos Taqueria

I would say happy Taco Tuesday, but I feel like I just had my taste buds burned off, so it really doesn’t feel that happy. Los Altos Taqueria, which is really in Mountain View, serves some pretty authentic tacos. It may seem good news to most, but to me, the more authentic they are, the spicier they are, and that’s not good news. Ok, don’t get me wrong, I love and am only willing to eat authentic tacos: the type with meat, cilantro, onions, and sometimes, salsa. However, the salsa can sometimes be very, very spicy, especially for the taste buds I was cursed with having. In this case, the curse really became my worst nightmare. As I took my first bite, I realized that the salsa was spicy. I continued to eat because it wasn’t too bad. I started panting and sweating, but that’s normal for me. I ate a third of each taco, since I was sharing, but on the fourth taco, the moment I started chewing was when I knew the world was ending. I drank a cup of soy milk, but that didn’t help. I ended up standing over the kitchen sink, with my mouth completely numb. Saliva was just dripping uncontrollably out of my mouth, and tears were rolling out. My whole face felt as if it was on fire. It took me about ten minutes to calm down, but boy, was that an experience. Now, don’t let this scare you away from eating here. I have some very spice-sensitive tastebuds, and even a couple hot Cheetos will leave me sweating like a madman. The taste of the tacos were great at first, but the spice eventually took over. The tortillas were very nice, and one of my favorite tortillas, even if they were a bit bitter. Next, we also ordered a carne asada quesadilla. It was pretty big, and it had meat, cheese, and pico de gallo. It was quite enjoyable, and actually quite cheap, at $6. Lastly, the side chips were also quite crunchy and delicious. Overall, I recommend that you go here, but if you’re like me, I would ask them to not add salsa, and maybe put pico de gallo instead. If you’re not like me though, by all means, go for it. Atmosphere: 3 Service: 3.5 (not especially friendly, but very quick) Taste: 4 Price: 3 (tacos were $2.95 each) Presentation: 3 Uniqueness: 3 Overall, 19.5/30 #tacotuesday
